Do you know of any games that counselors could use with teenagers in substance abuse groups? Games that would provide some insight to their use and/or addictions?

Hi Brian,
Charles Petranek has a game called The Drinking Game which is probably appropriate for your group. You can google it and see for yourself (make sure you put Petranek in the search...otherwise you get a truckload of real drinking games)
Cheers,
Sonia

Brian, Charles Petranech asked me to forward this information on his behalf. He was having trouble posting to the list.
Regards,
Chris

This is Dr. Charles Petranek. I read your message about wanting a substance abuse game. I created the Drinking Game and have conducted many years with students. It is highly effective at making students aware of their drinking habits. Most students do not know their own patterns and think they only drink a few at a time. Hardly any realize the social pressure and no one is aware that most of the social pressure comes from themselves. Students learn by playing, participating in oral debriefing and writing about their experiences.

I have the simulation for sale at $125 plus shipping and handling. It accommodates 40 participants and takes about one hour with debriefing. It simulates a real party with people trying to gain chips that represent drinks. You can contact me at cpetrane@usi.edu
